creepy orange eyes!!!

I have been out a bit this week so I haven't had much time to write. Well, Friday was supposed to be my slow day only to be abruptly suprised by a note on my door stating that I was choosen to go out Friday morning! Those *&#(Y%*@! Anyway. I was talking to William and ended up rushing him off the phone when I found the note b/c my usual amount of sleep is 7-8 hours. That way I am absolutely on top of my game and don't fall asleep even if I am bored. I know that looked a little shady, but given the situation I think it is permissable. *Sorry Boo* So I woke up early to go on this mission. When we got there we did some training on how to transfer someone who is injured into another vehicle (along with other passengers if the vehicle is disabled). I am not that heavy, but with 30 extra pounds of armor on I weigh a little more than a ton of bricks. It was good training, but exhausting.

We got back home safe and sound and took a long evening nap only to have to get up and help out with mail duty. I swear every time I have been on mail duty here lately I haven't gotten any packages, but every time I am not I get boxes. Isn't that silly. I have gotten tons of yummy Halloween candies through the mail thanks to many benefactors. Thank you all, and thanks Granny Griggs in advance for buying (again) that toothbrush that is going to keep my teeth from falling out. There is no floride in the water here besides the fact that you really shouldn't put anything other than bottled water in your mouth! And today there is a dust storm. They say it is common in the rainy season. It is going to start raining more and the weather will become rainy and dusty much more often now -- crap. Good news is that I am wearing a Halloween hat at least part of the day on OCT 31st. Tune in again after Halloween to see a photo :)

Funny, but scary, and true -- I got in from mail duty and had a last snack of spicy tuna and crackers before bed in the day room. The TV was on and the original Amityville was on. It had the creepy obvious music that if you are a fan of scary movies, that is the sound you always hear before something bad happens. So every time I hear that sound my tummy becomes anxious and I feel uncomfortable b/c you are trained to be ancy when you hear that. So on the TV the scene they looked out the window to find a pair of glowing orange eyes! Honestly it isn't that scary especially since that was then and this is now. There are so many more special effects and scary costumes that they used now. Here is the catch...I got in my bed to go to sleep only to see those same orange eyes on the back of my locker! AHHH! It creeped me out! I turned my little flashlight on it to find that it wasn't something that had jumped out of the movies and into my room, but instead a glare from some of my magnets that hold my pictures up. Wheew -- that was a close one.
SLEEP TIGHT; DON'T LET THE BED BUGS BIGHT!

New News Report

This is a New News Report from yours truely. It seems that they've figured out a strenght of mine is good driving so they've kept me busy with that every chance they get so I have had little time to do my office work or update my blog properly.

*Fairhope K-1 Center* has the cutest little students ever! The teachers got the students to make little pumpkins and cards and drawings for all of us for Halloween. My roommate and I put them on the wall just yesterday and everyone LOVES it! And my personal favorite is a pumpkin with a scary looking blob on the front that says inside, "Dear Soldier, Thanks you for killing all those mean people. You gotta be brave to do that." This cracks me up. And for the record I have personally shown it to everyone who walks in my office and they too have gotten a good giggle.

Next, My husband is now is Baghdad. So close, but so far away... The good thing is that we have been talking most nights. He is not having to live in a tent and has proper facilities to bathe. I am glad. And I still love him more than anything :)

A good friend of mine -- Candice has just gotten married. She looks beautiful in the pictures taken on the beach! Here is the link to A Thousand Words Photography where her pictures are posted. She married a yankee named Todd. I have met him a few times and am happy to see them share their lives together. Congrats you two!

Family, the deadline on sending Christmas things is the end of November to make sure they make it here on time. You aren't getting anything from me this year except what I've already sent and a few more things. So enjoy your tea sets and t-shirts from Iraq. We'll have a proper Christmas later... If there is something that you wish you had from here (and you must be very specific) let me know and I will try to find it. I can't make any promises that I'll be coming back for any reason after I leave :)

Hope you are happy, your health is good, and you are wealthy (at least in some way: relationship, friends, family, $$$, homes, career, karma, knowledge, etc)
;)

Going Darker(.) (?) (!)

I am interested in some lip stuff. Have you used any lip or face product with collagen in it? I would like to try some for fun, but want someone to tell me what they thought about it before I request some.

Okay, icky story:
I was going the shower after a long day of convoys. I got in there, turned on the water, and began soaping up. I stood there a minute only to notice that I had forgotten all my hair products! So (and I don't suggest you do this at home) I used soap to wash my hair and just put conditioner on it when I got back in the room. My nasty smelly hair was replaced with clean icky hair. It was eeew, but clean.

As you may have noticed since I've been here I have had quite my share of coloring. This is due to having brought some hair highlighting kits with me from home, being in the right place at the right hair salon and them having color, and finally to the fact that I've gotten way to bored with how I look over here and I can't change a whole lot beside cut or color and the minimum make-up rules still apply. I usually wear concealer if I have any obvious red spots on my face and mascara. For some reason when I look in the mirror and see something that looks at least one step up from the Corpse Bride I feel a little better about myself and am proud that the desert life has not taken all of my youth.

Okay, so back to hair...I am going to go back to a darker color. I got low lights when I was in Germany that were actually a very brown color in my opinion, but since my hair is so light it has soaked up most of the color already, or either something in this water takes the vibrance out of it. Probably both: dark color over very blonde + bad water = dull hair. I'm sure that's as constant a formula as a2 + b2 = c2. So I have this one box of dark hair color that I am going to try around Halloween. It will by a scary suprise for then if it doesn't turn out good and that's going to be my excuse. I've tried going gradually darker so it isn't too much of a shocker.

What does your hair look like right now? I want details! Cut and color?
Are you letting it grow? Are you about to cut it off? Are you getting highlight or lowlights? Or are you doing something crazy with it for Halloween?

Matching Sets

Okay, I have made peace with 3 of the 4 of my room mates, and the other 1 we say pleasantries but aren't overly friendly or get in each other's way. Today we all ordered similar things to loung in from Victoria's Secret! It's just cute comfy velour pants and hoodie, which had just become my favorite thing to wear right before the ACU took dominance over all other outfits :P
So I got a chocolate set (hoodie and satin side pant) while the other roomies got different versions of the matching sets in violet and cocktail (pink). I am a fan of pink, but their color pink makes me think mauve, which I am not a fan of. So I easily gave it up to another roomie b/c it is her very favorite color and everything on her side is a shade of pink. I considered violet also, but after seeing the VS advertisement with the hoodie I am getting with a khaki pair of pants I fell for it. I'm sold, and it should be here within the month! Yeah! Thanks Vicci Secret for shipping to APO addresses!

Church It Up

This post was inspired by my conversation with Sarah G about church, while it is my borrowing of one of my husband's funniest sayings: "Church It Up." Have you heard this saying before? I haven't heard it before a few short weeks ago, and I was absolutely rolling with laughter. This is how the story went...

Background: So I'm singing Shade's song number 11.

"Ohhh, when you're low
I'll be there to hold you tight
Do* me"
I thought I did okay, but since the um, verse was "to me" not "do me"
he said and I quote, you've got to "church it up" boo.

Oops! Guess I butchered that song.
I was justifying it by thinking, well, she is Jamacian and they are pretty
free spirited so maybe it wasn't anything out of the ordinary.

Okay, now really, I am churching it up today. I am doing a compassionate fast just today for Ramadan. I am drinking water, but that is it. Wish me strengh over food and anything bad.

Ramadan

Ramadan is a Muslim holiday that is huge over here. It starts Oct 5th and goes through Nov 4th (this year). During that time fasting is required from sunrise to sunset, but one may eat and drink at night. They believe that the fasting is supposed to be a full body experience: No drinking, drugs, smoking, eating... No looking at bad or sinful things... No listening to gossip or talking bad about someone... No smelling any foods or extremely good and tempting smells... No one should even set foot in a bad place... Everyone should try to get along better and pray for spiritual purity during this time.

We'll see how this goes. They are expecting some action from those not participating, but I'm hoping it will be quiet. I'll keep you posted. In the mean time, enjoy a special greeting for Ramadan :)
